Fast Browser; Mahhhvelous Photo Comparison
It seems that dang near every time I googled for an image app with one feature or another, various forum raves inevitably led me back to this app. You wouldnt know it from the description, but this buddy has a fantastic sliding-scale mechanism for image comparison purposes. Ideal for birders, or any dSLR folks who like to "hold" the snap button for rapid shooting. Force an absolute identical match, or ease it a bit for very similar pics. You can batch delete (to trash, optionally), or click the "next" tab to actually see each of the dupe sets found, deleting the precise pic desired. Size, creation date, name, path and image dimensions remain visible per pic, to help you delete intelligently. And boy, is it fast! Ran through roughly 4500 photos, within about a dozen subfolders, in mere minutes-- you can actually sit and watch instead of getting up for a cup of coffee, etc (i5 iMac).
I also love the browser-- your folder tree appears in a left-hand window, so drilling down to your precise target subfolder is a no-sweat job. You can also select the top folder, with the pics in all subfolders immediately appearing in the browser. You can easily/quickly rate pics as you visually review, enlarging or shrinking the thumbnails, or rely instead on a simultaneous-view secondary window with a much larger pic. (But the larger thumbnails are sufficient for most purposes.) Initially, I was annoyed with the apparent lack of an openmeta tagging mechanism, but the work-around is easy enough: just get freebie TagIt, keep that icon on your dock, drag and drop from this apps browser to the icon, add your tags, and then continue working in GraphicConverter. Very fluid workflow.
Cant speak to the editing features as Ive not yet indulged them. But Im adding this comment **now** so folks looking for image comparison, in particular, will know THIS is the real deal! FWIW, it really is like a Swiss Army knife for dealing with all those photos on your disk! I had been waiting for the inevitable price drop, but I really wanted to start the laborious process of cleaning up my pics. Now, my only regret is that I wasted so much time playing "cheapie". Turns out, the task was a piece of cake, at least, with GC in my arsenal.
