I cant even begin to count the number of times this application saved me in so many projects. The App store version is great.

I find that GraphicConverter has many useful features: browsing pictures on the hard drive, slideshows, converting formats, batch processing and image editing. I also find it a good complement to my other photo programs. Excellent work.
GraphicConverter is a bit of Mac Cult Classic, now I use GraphicConverter mostly to manage personal photos, its not a one stop shop but integrates quite well into any work flow you can think of. The keyboard sorting of photos is brilliant and I havent found any other photo application that even cares about the use of keyboard for sorting and managing photos. I wish for even more flexibility with keyboard shortcuts but allas I use what is provided quite extensively. Buyer beware the software does require thinking! This is not a photo managing/editing software for your grandma, and provided tutorials are a must "at least a skim through" to get the most use out of it. The only downside is that the AppStore version unfortunately doesnt get updates as often as Id like, I really wish Apple could speed up the review process.
Ive used Graphic Converter for so many years Im not sure how long it has been. I dont use it every day, having both Photoshop CS5 and Aperture 3. But I do find it handier for some tasks such as conversions. Im finding the v8 interface takes a bit too much screen space compared to the previous versions, but you still cant beat what it does for the price. Lemke provides lots of updates for free, and updates do come first to their website (usually before the App Store). Great software from a great developer. Updates through the App Store do take a bit longer than those throught the website. But if you dont want to spend money on the more expensive image editors, definitely give this one a try.
Ive been using GraphicConverter for many, many years now both as a professional and for my personal projects. It is my goto application for batch processing, converting formats and for quick edits.
I have been using versions of GraphicConverter since the last millenium and consider it indespensible for creating website graphics, making animated GIFs, converting PDFs to graphics, and manipulating folders of graphics in batch mode. This refresh of Mr. Lemkes amazing "swiss army knife" tool is brilliant. He and his collaborators have outdone themselves in modernizing the interface to take advantage of the latest user interface features of modern Mac OS!
Ive used this application almost a decade. It has never disappointed me and is better than any others Ive looked at for batch processing and sorting through large quantities of files. It not only is great for conversions but also is a decent editor. I have had several occasions to contact the author and am impressed with his availability, his responsiveness and his reasonableness. I am still becoming familiar with this new version which I like very much so far and which has an improved look and feel.
Ive been a registered user of this application for several years and a free users for years before that. This application has been an indispensible tool opening some of the strangest graphic formats, batch conversions and doing basic image editing. Now, with its updated interface, it really feels at home on OS X.
It seems that dang near every time I googled for an image app with one feature or another, various forum raves inevitably led me back to this app. You wouldnt know it from the description, but this buddy has a fantastic sliding-scale mechanism for image comparison purposes. Ideal for birders, or any dSLR folks who like to "hold" the snap button for rapid shooting. Force an absolute identical match, or ease it a bit for very similar pics. You can batch delete (to trash, optionally), or click the "next" tab to actually see each of the dupe sets found, deleting the precise pic desired. Size, creation date, name, path and image dimensions remain visible per pic, to help you delete intelligently. And boy, is it fast! Ran through roughly 4500 photos, within about a dozen subfolders, in mere minutes-- you can actually sit and watch instead of getting up for a cup of coffee, etc (i5 iMac). I also love the browser-- your folder tree appears in a left-hand window, so drilling down to your precise target subfolder is a no-sweat job. You can also select the top folder, with the pics in all subfolders immediately appearing in the browser. You can easily/quickly rate pics as you visually review, enlarging or shrinking the thumbnails, or rely instead on a simultaneous-view secondary window with a much larger pic. (But the larger thumbnails are sufficient for most purposes.) Initially, I was annoyed with the apparent lack of an openmeta tagging mechanism, but the work-around is easy enough: just get freebie TagIt, keep that icon on your dock, drag and drop from this apps browser to the icon, add your tags, and then continue working in GraphicConverter. Very fluid workflow. Cant speak to the editing features as Ive not yet indulged them. But Im adding this comment **now** so folks looking for image comparison, in particular, will know THIS is the real deal! FWIW, it really is like a Swiss Army knife for dealing with all those photos on your disk! I had been waiting for the inevitable price drop, but I really wanted to start the laborious process of cleaning up my pics. Now, my only regret is that I wasted so much time playing "cheapie". Turns out, the task was a piece of cake, at least, with GC in my arsenal.
GraphicConverter is an amazing piece of software. The technical support is excellent and the price has always been incredibly reasonable for what the product does. When I first started using it, it basically converted any graphics file from one format to another. It still does this beautifully and additional formats are always added. However, so many tools have been added, for many people it could even replace the big-guy photo tool. Enjoy and the author of this software deserves every penny he/she gets. Shareware at its best!
ive used every version ever released since the 90s and still find it to be one of the best general graphics tools in my kit
the problem i had was a prefrence corruption in lion, however I give 4 stars because the developer is not avalible if you have such problems. great product, poor support! I bought this last week i was so excited I had 100k clip art images in hpi and no way to use them on my mac. I converted about 65K of them and the program worked exalent then im computer had an accute power fail! thanks to microsoft office for mac. the devil program that i learned slowed my computer to 1984 speeds gradually over the two years I had it. after uninstalling microsoft and getting my computer back to order I went back to my converting task only the application didnt work any more. so i deleted it and tryed reinstalling from the app store. still did the same thing. I LOVE this program I loved its use but all i know is it wont work. if the dev reads this please help I will gladly change my review to 5 stars
Ive used it for years. It works very well.
This software is feature rich and can do some impressively advanced batch processing. Great value for what youre getting.
It has every imaginable file format conversion combination covered and I like how deep it goes on the options for each file format, its very deep, but its slow. Photoshops Image Processor which I was looking to replace with this is about twice as fast. Also if theres a way to display files as file names instead of icons instead, I didnt find it. It seems it takes quite a while to just start up because its loading image icons/creating previews. So for now I will stick with Image Processor for converting my image sequences. Too bad the App Store doesnt provide for trial/demo versions.
I bought this just to say thanks for all the years I used Graphic Converter w/o payting the shareware fees (sorry Thorsten, I was young and needed the money). On opening it up I was thrilled to see its gotten a complete overhaul and feels right at home on Lion, just the way it did on Mac OS 7.
Ive used GraphicConverter for many many years, used it often because it does some specific things really very well. Getting files down to specific sizes, and seeing what the compression looks like as I adjust the compression is often indespensible for me, and batch convert is the cats meow. Thank you for a great application!
wont open my .ecw images… false advertising!
The application becomes unresponsive as soon as I try to save ANY modification. Ive tried reinstalling it, and running it completely on its own on my last generation iMac, which is powerful enough to run ANY other program smoothly.
I keep trying this app because their really isnt a competitor for managing pictures directly in the file system. Thats unfortunate. This is still buggy and needlessly complex.
